Our current alphabet is based on the ancient Greek Alphabet, where all letters had different values. The first letter A (Alpha) had a value of 1. the second letter B (Beta) had a value of 2 all letters in the Greek Alphabet were placed according to their value. So, yes, our Alphabet actually does have a logical order.

Can none of you use your brain for, like, 5 seconds? There is every reason in the world for the alphabet to be in order. Think dictionaries, libraries, sorting algorithms. How would a dictionary with 50 000 words work without an alphabet with a specific order? How would you look up a word?

Well, most alphabets are following the ancient Greek format which assigned a value on each letter, like programming. Mentioned correctly here but doesn't answer the question. The reason the alphabet has a specific order is different. If you pronounce the ancient Greek alphabet, like alpha, beta, gama, etc you are indeed saying a prayer to the god of sun. Just a small example, the letter omega, in Greek translates as "the Great" which is the final verse of the Great God of sun.

But you would not able to call it alphabet anymore, because it is constituted of order of alpha, beta = alphabet. You would have to cal it by the first three letters of your order. And the other person will call it differently because of his particular order. Even more, if you don't stick to you order you would keep changing the name of what we know now as alphabet, and no one would understand you anymore. That's why we need order and consistency.

The Latin alphabet is based on Greek, which is based on Phoenixian, which is based on Egyptian hieroglyphs... there is probably a profound reason as to why the letters are in the order that they are, but it's not really known today.
